The Beauty Of Homebrew

For those coming from linux and used to the comfort of apt, or those frequenting the app stores on Android and iOS devices, Homebrew would provide you the luxury of having a centralised place to download and install various softwares,even those not found on the Mac App Store on MacOS devices. Here is a list of hand commands used in the terminal.

  • installing Homebrew with
  • /usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
  • checking for problems with installed packages with
  • brew doctor
  • updating the homebrew databases with
  • brew update
  • upgrading your installed packages to the latest versions with
  • brew upgrade
  • listing all available packages with
  • brew search
  • installing a certain package with
  • brew install "package name"
  • uninstalling a certain package with
  • brew uninstall "package name"
  • initialising the cask repository for actual mac apps with
  • brew tap caskroom/cask
  • installing a certain app with
  • brew cask install "app name"
  • uninstalling a certain app with
  • brew cask uninstall "app name"
  • removing already installed installation files with
  • brew cleanup && brew cask cleanup
  • getting a list of your outdated packages or apps with
  • brew outdated && brew cask outdated
  • listing all installed brew packages
